Samantha Guertin

Originally from London and now working from her St Leonards studio, Samantha takes her inspiration from the rich and varied land/seascape of East Sussex.

On leaving Camberwell School of Arts and Crafts she set up her first studio in East London, working as a sculptor in clay focussing on the female nude form.

She then moved to Madrid, where she spent five years teaching, drawing and painting. In the late nineties she returned to the UK, and in 2008 moved to Hastings, drawn by the vibrant artistic community in the area.

Predominantly a  painter of sea/landscapes and still lifes, Samantha will sometimes place figures within her  landscapes, and her still lifes often feature flowers and plants from her own garden, as well as from her walks on the South Downs. Her work is colourful. She uses acrylics and oil, working both in the studio and plein air. She seeks to catch something of the moment in her paintings – to capture the essence of the scene and invites the viewer to share this vision.

She exhibits regularly and is a member of SoCo (South Coast Artists) and Hastings Art Forum. She also welcomes commission work.
